We do not dye the fleece of our alpacas to preserve the softness, and to create a subtle marled effect that gives the color of the yarn depth and texture. The yarn is soft and squishy.
Monet has soft, bright, sliver grey fleece. Misty has beautiful and lengthy white fleece. Alpaca fiber is very soft. The fibers are smooth and have a hollow core that make them lighter in weight than sheep wool, and forms good insulation, so that alpaca fiber is warmer and lighter in weight than sheep wool. It is not scratchy like sheep wool often is. Alpaca fiber contains no lanolin so it is less prone to causing allergic reactions than sheep wool. It is water resistant, and maintains its insulating property when wet.
Care Instructions
Items made with alpaca fiber should be hand washed in cold water, with a gentle detergent or soap specialized for natural fibers. Blot to wick moisture in absorbent towels. Then should be laid flat to dry.
